Glenn Cunningham Lake Public Notice

The City of Omaha, in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District, will hold a public meeting to seek input on a draft Environmental Assessment of additional recreational improvements at Glenn Cunningham Lake. The meeting will be held on Sept. 18, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Camelot Community Center Gym, 9270 Cady Ave.

The City received public input last January on potential recreation improvements at the Lake. That input was used in the development of an Environmental Assessment which evaluates two potential alternatives that include many of the improvements recommended in January. The Sept. 18 meeting will provide the public an opportunity to comment on the alternatives and the improvements contained within each alternative.

The public is encouraged to provide comments on the draft environmental assessment, which is available for viewing HERE. Public input forms may be submitted during the meeting, mailed/e-mailed to the contact listed below or completed online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CunninghamLake. Public input will be accepted through October 6, 2019. The input received will be utilized by Omaha Parks and Recreation as they make a decision concerning future recreational improvements.

In addition, updates on the construction of improvements to trails and camping facilities at Cunningham Lake, will be provided. The State of Nebraska will be present to provide an update on the lake drawdown, fishery rehabilitation, and fishery maintenance.

The City of Omaha leases and manages the Glenn Cunningham Lake property, a federally owned flood control project on the Papillion Creek. In Nov. 2018, the City of Omaha initiated a study to evaluate potential recreational features at Glenn Cunningham Lake.
