There are over 120 miles of paved trail throughout the City of Omaha with a number of those trails connecting to trails outside of the City. A map of the metro area trails titled "Paths of Discovery" is available on-line and in a hard copy form at community centers, libraries, bike shops and other establishments around the city. A listing and short description of some of the trails is listed below. All trails are concrete surfaced unless otherwise noted.

Omaha Trails Update – 3/4/2019


A lot is happening with the City’s multi-use, recreational trails right now. Here is a quick summary of what’s going on.

NOTE: ITEMS IN RED HIGHLIGHT CLOSED SECTIONS OF TRAILS AND CHANGES FROM THE MARCH 2019 UPDATE.

144th STREET TRAIL
Trail on west side of S. 144th Street from West Dodge Expressway to Pine Street remains closed to all trail users due to the continued construction of the West Farms/South Farms Development. No detour suggested.

Trail on east side of S. 144th Street from Pacific to Pine Streets is now open for use. 

BARRINGTON PARK CONNECTOR TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

BIG PAPIO TRAIL
Trail is closed from roughly West Dodge Expressway south to Cancer Survivors Park (south 105th street) as a result of the March flooding. Trail is undermined in places, concrete panels have been dislodged and the rail is covered with silt. No timetable at this time as to when this section will reopen. 

• Big Papio Trail Extension Project - Hefflinger Park to Tranquility Park. Work would be undertaken at the time that Public Works undertakes the widening N. 120th Street at West Maple Road. Tentatively scheduled for 2020 or 2021.

BLONDO STREET TRAIL (Big Papio Trail to N. 153rd Avenue)
Trail is currently open with no closures.

BOB KERREY PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
 Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is currently open. However, the Missouri River could rise above flood stage anytime this spring which would result in the bridge being closed. Bridge closings will be posted on the Omaha Parks and Recreation website at https://parks.cityofomaha.org/ . If you use the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge as a primary route daily, we advise that you plan an alternate route in case the bridge is closed. 

BROOKHAVEN PARK TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

FIELD CLUB TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

FLANAGAN LAKE & RECREATION AREA
 The trail is currently open with no trail closures

HAPPY HOLLOW (a.k.a. BOULEVARD) TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

HIKING TRAILS AT HUMMEL PARK
• All trails are currently open with no closures.

KEYSTONE TRAIL

• Trail is currently open with no closures.

LAMP PARK TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

MOUNTAIN BIKE/HIKING TRAILS AT TRANQUILITY PARK
• All trails are currently open with no closures.

RIVERFRONT TRAIL NORTH (Kiwanis Park to Washington County Line)

Trail is currently open with no closures from Kiwanis Park north to the Douglas/Washington County Line.

Section of the trail at the Gallup Headquarters may close due to the Missouri river rising above flood stage. Trail closings will be posted on the Omaha Parks and Recreation website at https://parks.cityofomaha.org

• Riverfront Trail Phase IV - Project involves the design of the final one-mile section of the Riverfront Trail along Abbott Drive from Millers Landing Park to Kiwanis Park and the design of the Levi Carter Park Trail along the north and west sides of the lake. Drawings are 60% complete. Still working on the environmental documents for the project.

RIVERFRONT TRAIL SOUTH (Heartland of America Park to Veterans Memorial Bridge)
• Conceptual design completed in 2012. No schedule set yet for this project.

Trail from Hickory Street south to Mt. Vernon Gardens Park is open for use.

SKYLINE TRAIL (West Dodge Road to North Main Street and Park Road – Elkhorn)
Trail is currently open with no closures.

SOUTH OMAHA TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

STANDING BEAR LAKE & RECREATION AREA TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

TURNER BOULEVARD TRAIL
• S. 36th & Pacific Streets to Turner Park and Dodge Street – Currently open with no closures.

Turner Boulevard Trail from S. 36th & Pacific Streets to the Field Club Trail – Design is complete. Construction has been pushed back to September 2019.

WEST PAPIO TRAIL
Trail is currently open from Huntington Park south to Millard Avenue and from "Q" Street & Harry Andersen Avenue south to Giles Road.

ZORINSKY LAKE & RECREATION AREA TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.
