There are over 120 miles of paved trail throughout the City of Omaha with a number of those trails connecting to trails outside of the City. A map of the metro area trails titled "Paths of Discovery" is available on-line and in a hard copy form at community centers, libraries, bike shops and other establishments around the city. A listing and short description of some of the trails is listed below. All trails are concrete surfaced unless otherwise noted.

Omaha Trails Update – December 3rd, 2019

A lot is happening with the City’s multi-use, recreational trails right now. Here is a quick summary of what’s going on.

144th Street Trail – Section on the east side of 144th Street closed from West Maple Road south to Eagle Run Drive.

144th Street Trail - Section closed between Stony Brook Blvd and Drexel Street 

Big Papio Trail – Section closed from roughly West Dodge Expressway south to Cancer Survivors Park.

Riverfront Trail North - Section closed between Crown Point Avenue & Ida Street north to John J. Pershing Drive & Minne Lusa Ditch.

Riverfront Trail North - Section closed on the MUD property in Florence.

River Front Trail South – Section closed from 1st & Hickory Streets south to 10th Street & Missouri Avenue.

144th STREET TRAIL
Trail on west side of S. 144th Street from Pacific to Pine Streets is now open for use.

Trail on east side of S. 144th Street from Pacific to Pine Streets is now open for use.

• The trail from West Maple Road south to Eagle Run Drive on the east side of 144th Street remains closed due to a new water main being installed.

• A section of the 144th Street Trail between Stony Brook Blvd and Drexel Street will be closed starting on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 so that the City can undertake repairs of the trail. The trail will reopen on Monday, December 9, 2019. There is no suggested detour route for trail users. 

BARRINGTON PARK CONNECTOR TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

BIG PAPIO TRAIL
• Trail is closed from roughly West Dodge Expressway south to Cancer Survivors Park (south 105th street) as a result of the March flooding. Trail is undermined in places, concrete panels have been dislodged and the rail is covered with silt. No timetable at this time as to when this section will reopen. 

 Big Papio Trail Extension Project - Hefflinger Park to Tranquility Park. Work would be undertaken at the time that Public Works undertakes the widening N. 120th Street at West Maple Road. Tentatively scheduled for 2020 or 2021.

BLONDO STREET TRAIL (Big Papio Trail to N. 153rd Avenue)
Trail is currently open with no closures.

BOB KERREY PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
 Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is currently open. However, during the winter season, the bridge can close at anytime do to icy conditions. Bridge closings will be posted on the Omaha Parks and Recreation website. If you use the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge as a primary route daily, we advise that you plan an alternate route in case the bridge is closed.

BROOKHAVEN PARK TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

FIELD CLUB TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

FLANAGAN LAKE & RECREATION AREA
 The trail is currently open with no trail closures

HAPPY HOLLOW (a.k.a. BOULEVARD) TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

HIKING TRAILS AT HUMMEL PARK
• All trails are currently open with no closures.

KEYSTONE TRAIL

• Trail is currently open with no closures.

LAMP PARK TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

MOUNTAIN BIKE/HIKING TRAILS AT TRANQUILITY PARK
• All trails are currently open with no closures.

RIVERFRONT TRAIL NORTH (Kiwanis Park to Washington County Line)

Section of the trail from Crown Point Avenue & Ida  Street north to John Pershing Drive & the Minne Lusa Ditch is closed so that the City can install temporary pumps along the flood levee. This trail section will be closed until further notice.

• Section of the trail located on Metropolitan Utilities District’s (MUD) property across from the MUD Florence Water Treatment Plant, between the trailhead parking lot off of John J. Pershing Drive and the MUD Pump Station is closed due to undermining of the trail.

• Riverfront Trail Phase IV - Project involves the design of the final one-mile section of the Riverfront Trail along Abbott Drive from Millers Landing Park to Kiwanis Park and the design of the Levi Carter Park Trail along the north and west sides of the lake. Drawings are 60% complete. Still working on the environmental documents for the project. Construction tentatively scheduled for 2020. 

RIVERFRONT TRAIL SOUTH (Heartland of America Park to Veterans Memorial Bridge)

• Section of the trail from 1st and Hickory Streets south to 10th Street and Missouri Avenue remains closed as a result of temporary pumps and pipes installed across the trail. This trail section will remain closed until further notice.

• Conceptual design completed in 2012. No schedule set yet for this project.

SKYLINE TRAIL (West Dodge Road to North Main Street and Park Road – Elkhorn)
Trail is currently open with no closures.

SOUTH OMAHA TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

• Use caution on the section of the trail that passes under I-80 near the grain elevators. Storm runoff from I-80 continues to wash silt onto the trail. 

• Use caution on the section of the trail from the South 42nd Street underpass west up on the hill. Storm runoff from I-80 continues to wash silt onto the trail. 

STANDING BEAR LAKE & RECREATION AREA TRAIL
Trail is currently open with no closures.

TURNER BOULEVARD TRAIL
• S. 36th & Pacific Streets to Turner Park and Dodge Street – Currently open with no closures.

WEST PAPIO TRAIL
Trail is currently open from Huntington Park south to Millard Avenue and from "Q" Street & Harry Andersen Avenue south to Giles Road.

ZORINSKY LAKE & RECREATION AREA TRAIL
• Trail is currently open with no closures
